After this class, what impressed me the most was thinking more about design. When I chose this workshop, I thought it was a skills training course. Of course, I learned a lot of skills from this section, but not only that. This class brought me more feelings to observe and think about the world from a more macro perspective. Design is not just about looking good but also about helping more people to solve problems. Through this class, I realized that designers should stand in everyone's perspective and that design is not only for large groups of people, but everyone in the world can be our target.
Thinking More Over the Design
In this project, I designed an earring computer that allows mothers to use their hands freely in their daily lives without stress. First of all, it's a wearable deviceļ¼ which means moms can carry it with them 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so they can multitask at home without quitting their jobs. Moms can wear it for long periods without causing too much damage to their eardrums.
Besides the practicality of a product designed for mothers, we wanted this mother's computer to balance aesthetics. Therefore, this device is not limited to a single color and shape but offers more wearing options for moms.
After reading this article, I believe that the interaction experience should be similar no matter how the senses are used. The examples given in the article remind me that in addition to the functionality of the products we use in our daily lives, the interactive experience and feedback during use are also significant.
I often think about how I would communicate with people if I were paralyzed but conscious, with only my eyeballs and eyelids moving.
I think there are affordances to everyday communication with people. Verbal communication requires you to be able to make sounds and to know any language well. Physical communication requires you to have a pair of dexterous hands and the skill to write or type. This is not a problem for many people today, but if you ever lose these skills, how will you communicate?
There is a group of people in the world who suffer from Locked-in Syndrome, a condition with symptoms very similar to those of a vegetative person, but the difference between them and a vegetative person is that they are conscious. They can hear and see, but they can't speak or move.
They can't express themselves due to physical reasons, and they can't use the smart devices currently available on the market. So I am thinking about how to help them use physical peripheral to express themselves.
From the reading, Rez uses a combination of visual, sound, and tactile senses. Visually, the game's background is a more basic graphic and uniform color, while the targets being shot are more detailed and have a high contrast color from background colors. The visual effects are mainly light effects made of dots and lines. Different sounds have different effects. For example, the game background music is more upbeat than electronic music, more in line with the game's rhythm. Sound effects mainly appear when entering the next level. At the same time, the visual aspect also has a rotating light, both from the visual and sound can let players know immediately enter the next level. Although the gameplay is set, the pace of the game can be controlled by the player. The game operation looks like the mouse manipulates the square to move to a designated location, and the game interaction mainly involves flashing white lines connected to the selected target. There are also some geometric shapes to follow during the movement to show the player's movement track. At the same time, the different perspective shifts can be more consistent with the overall style of this 3D game. Regardless of the senses, it follows the overall theme of the game. These different senses shape each other and rely on each other at the same time.
This website is about my self-perception of my sexual orientation. Because I don't think there is a clear answer to the question of what influenced my current gender perception and how much each of these things affected me. So I put all the relevant experiences in there. Then, readers can judge for themselves what shaped who I am today by clicking on different keywords to read the stories. Each segment may be connected to any story. Then, readers can turn each story on or off to think about their connections and impact on me.
In the book, Legacy defines glitch is a liberate error that refuse the normative system. Glitch is about breaking the existing standards of society and the stereotypes that society defines for each individual. Giving each person the opportunity to become what they want to be.
To my understanding, it seems like a concessionary act that makes it difficult to change society and thus change oneself. But it's not a pejorative term, and it's a choice for a faster and more autonomous way. So I'm just not sure how to distinguish whether they identify with this identity difference from stereotypes and so want to escape from their true selves or the people want to get rid of the normative society to accept themselves.
